Ok, so while the voting is going on for playoff next week, I'll put up the next debate topic. The issue of contracts have expanded farther then expected and my hope is get it straightened out. While we are getting it worked out I would like everyone to remember that new contract rules will not start until May 1st. Also there has to be some stability in the rules, because contracts are talking about having players for several years we need to set rules and make them solid for good, this is not an issue that can keep changing from year to year. These rules will be forever!
Lets take this slow and break it down. First, who can we sign? some options are
1) Just draft picks
2) Just free agents pick ups
3) Draft picks and Free agents
4) Draft picks and traded players (owner who traded the player away would lose rights to sign said player)
5) Just traded players
6) Free agents and traded players
7) Everyone
Ideas I think could work would be 1,2,3, and 4. I think 5,6, and 7 are extreme and can't work well. If you have other options then bring them up.

I vote for 4, drafted and traded players.
I vote for 4. My brain hurts.
i am fine with 4, but we would have to come up with a solution to... what if you wanted to re-sign a player that you drafted in the same round as a player that you traded for and would also like to re-sign.
you can't lose 2 picks in one round.
I think it will be the same rule as if you traded for a draft pick last year, a signing can only happen if it's possible, if you gave up your 2nd round on a draft signing and wanted to sign a traded player for a 2nd round you can't because you don't have that round to give up anymore.
that's fine with me. all i really care is that we can only sign people that are on our roster at the end of the year. free agents, i think, is just best for them to go back into the draft.
so basically you can only re-sign a player that was on your team at the end of the year and already had a contract(no free agents)...and if you have two players with the same round you can not offer them both contracts.
is that what we are talking about?
For the most part, we're only taking one piece at a time so this just is covering who we sign, not the contract limits.
So only drafted and traded players, with the owner who traded losing the rights to the player. Seems like that works for everyone.
I was talking with Joe last night and an important clarification should be made. I'm saying only drafted players can be signed, and only drafted traded players can be signed. If you trade for a free agent he can not be signed even though it was a trade, also if someone drops a drafted player into the free agent pool that player loses signing rights.
i get it, now where are the people to vote?
Yeah, I'm pretty much thinking that the new players won't be doing any voting. Branden, Dan, Woody, and Steve may way in on a vote or two sometimes but won't be here consistent, which means us 4 are the people who will be doing most of the votin and ironing it out. So we know who can be signed, I'll post up the next topic regarding contracts.
