Well it's getting close to the half way mark of our draft, most of our starters are in place and ready but when should your starting defense be drafted? Well I suppose it depends on your mood or how you rank each position to each other. A good defense can really win you a game like Baltimore did last year. With the offseason shuffle every year how do you know which defense is worthing picking up right now or should you focus on your back-ups? Many different players draft differently, some think a even depth chart is the best way to go, while others try to get at least someone in the top five in every position and move on not dealing with back-ups until later. Who knows what works best, maybe both can work. Like I said it depends what you value more. Here are some of our defensive stats from last year. Baltimore hauled in 240 fantasy points which was more then any other defense and better then most players too. Chicago made 199 fantasy points which is still quite a bit higher then the defense average, the next closest was N.E.with 165 pts. After that there is a few around 150 (Philadelphia, Minnesota,San Diego)and after that most other defenses where averaging around 130. So if you have an average defense you were over 100 fantasy points behind the top defense last year. Would that extra 100 fantasy points have helped you out? Hell Yeah it would've! The answer to "is it to early to grab a defense?" is NO, it's not to early based on those stats but you have to make sure you get one of the top 3 defenses in the league or its a wasted draft pick. Do your homework and check offseason trades and signings, you just might be able to figure out who will be the best.
